Business at this time was minimal. Oman neither enjoyed the prosperity nor suffered the decline of the Gulf pearling industry, nor was it affected by the discovery of oil in the thirties and forties. The Sultan family maintained its interests that included small sub-dealerships in Kuwait and Iraq for Dunlop tires and several tobacco companies. Then in 1973 Abdulredha made the pilgrimage to Mecca stopping along the way to visit his representitives. In Kuwait he saw possibilities inherent in oil production; back in Oman he convinced his family to establish a stronger presence there. This decision determined the fate of the enterprise for the next seberal decades.

The new (est. 1948) Kuwait branch of WJ Towell was a small operation handling foreign exchange, films, perfume and motor oil when its first big opportunity came along in the form of a ghee (cooking oil) shortage. Abdulredha knew that Muttrah had qualities and so did Gwador, an Omani-ruled enclave in Pakistan.

A deal was concluded that revered the company's fortunes and set a precedent for their large-scale commodity trading. The nascent Gulf oil boom caused frequent shortages and WJ Towell handled foodstuffs in bulks of 25 to 50 tons.

Inception in 1994 was as a maintenance wing of WJ Towell's Property division, for carrying out the maintenance of existing WJT Properties and for carying out the construction for their new / redevelopment projects.
